Art, Cooking, and Fun with Frida Kahlo Online

Join us for a very special program celebrating the great artist Frida Kahlo and her pride in her Mexican heritage! Frida is one of the most famous artists in the world, and her art was inspired by the culture, nature, people, and animals she surrounded herself with. She was also married to Diego Rivera, a famous muralist and fellow artist and great thinker. She painted many self-portraits through her life, often including the many animals that were her pets, and each picture symbolizes a different aspect of her life. She also loved to paint pictures inspired by her Mexican culture, celebrating her family and the people and places that were close to her heart. In this program, we will read a picture book about Frida's life and her pets which she called "Animalitos", learn how to mix colors to paint our own self-portraits with the people and things that are important to us, and finish by learning how to cook an easy and special Mexican dish, tostadas!
You can pick up a program kit at the Main or Meadows library branches, which will include everything you need to paint your very own self-portrait, as well as a list of ingredients for three different versions of tostadas. Join us at Art, Cooking, and Fun with Frida Kahlo to celebrate Frida, her life, her art, and her incredible Mexican pride!
