AIGA Makerspace Series: An Introduction to Laser Cutting and 3D Printing for Designers
Join AIGA CO Boulder at BLDG 61 to learn the basics of laser cutting and 3D printing.
BLDG 61 laptops will be provided, but feel free to BYO--especially if you have Adobe Creative Suite! We have limited laptops, and will be developing designs through CorelDraw, Inkscape, and good old fashioned paper and pencil. All students will leave with a laser cut votive box of their own design.
Space is limited, please register to confirm your spot. Appropriate for ages 14+ with some digital design experience.
More about the class:
Digital type and computer layout programs democratized design tools in the 80’s-90’s. Today, a wave of technologies are democratizing small scale manufacture and rapid prototyping too.
Designers already posses many of the skills needed to leverage these new tools. Understanding how to bridge the gap from concept to physical object is all that’s needed.
We’ll talk about some of the technical aspects of these new tools, see what designers are already doing with them, try our hand at designing for the laser cutter, and hopefully inspire you to incorporate these machines into your own practice.
Oh, and did we mention LAZERS!
All attendees must fill out our Acknowledgement of Risk and Release Form prior to use of .
