Dear Steve ... it's Allie In-Person
In a performance that is both traditional and high tech, Allie plays the piano and mountain dulcimer, weaving in archival recordings, electronics, and symphonic samples, as she sings, tells stories, and talks to her younger self - Steve - about the heartland boy and devoted father she watched from a distance, and the life she now lives as a trans composer and artist.
When Allie's evangelical cousin invites her to come back to her hometown and go to church with him, Allie takes the opportunity to talk to Steve ~ on the long drive to his boyhood home ~ about the things she knows he was unable to see, and the unseen forces that have shaped them both.

This event is organized by a community partner and hosted by the Boulder Public Library.
Please use the North Side Canyon Entrance if arriving after 6:30 p.m. Parking is available in both the Canyon and Arapahoe lots. To reach the theater from the Arapahoe lot, you can cross the creek using the exterior bridge.

Dear Steve is both personally vulnerable and politically provocative, asking where we believe we belong, and who we think of as ‘our people.’
While the piece engages questions of identity and solidarity, of faith and country, Dear Steve is, at its core, a love letter from Allie to Steve, a musical work of integration, a reflection on the multiple ways we're bound together.
