Books to film - White Lies: Tuakiri Huna
Join us as we explore movies based on books. Come share your thoughts on filmmakers' challenges in capturing the essence of a book.
This month, we will screen movies based on Witi Ihimaera's books, available at the Boulder Public Library.
Paraiti is the healer and midwife of her rural, tribal people in New Zealand. But new laws prohibiting unlicensed healers, make the practice of much Maori medicine illegal. She gets approached by Maraea (Rachel House, Hunt for the Wilderpeople), the servant of a wealthy woman, Rebecca, who seeks her knowledge and assistance in order to hide a secret which could destroy Rebecca’s position in European settler society.
- Director: Dana Rotberg ♦ Cast Rachel House, Whirimako Black, Antonia Prebble, Nancy Brunning, Te Waimarie Kessell, Kohuorangi Tawhara, Elizabeth Hawthorne.
