Holden Presents: A New Way to Play

Holden Presents: A New Way to Play In-Person

Holden Young is a professional musician who has struggled with the disenfranchisement detachment disconnection that spawned during the pandemic.  As a performer and writer he did his best to continue the musical pursuits...alone.  His new project "New Way to Party" is an experiment he hopes to take on the road but not alone.  His solo performances include a loop  based keyboard/DJ approach to creating funky music that is for dancing, frollicking, sharing, and being in connection with the moment in a space and time.  He has mastered and developed some incredible techniques to build a groove with a very basic keyboard setup.  Now that he has some mastery and lots of pitfalls that come with such exploration he is creating some media that will get him touring again and connecting with local musicians wherever he goes.

"I've been so lonesome and yet productive that I am grateful to have the idea come to fruition.  SInce the pandemic it has seemed impossible to consider performing and touring but I hope that with this project I can travel light and wherever I go play with the local talented musicians where I go to make beautiful improvisation and sound scape dance music on the cheap and bring some real connections to the music scene that will expand internationally."

At the Boulder Public Library Canyon theater he will be recording a performance that he hopes will 'canonize' the project so he can begin his touring pursuits.  The educational inspiration should be clear that even with a cheap keyboard and a little bit of effort anyone can create their own party and a new way to do so with people they organically connect with.

This event is organized by a community partner and hosted by the Boulder Public Library.
