Your Digital Afterlife: Lessons from the Clinic

Your Digital Afterlife: Lessons from the Clinic In-Person

What happens to your online accounts, photos, and messages when you die?
Jed Brubaker and the Digital Legacy Clinic at CU Boulder address these challenges by helping people plan ahead and supporting families in times of loss. Join an interactive evening of stories, case files, and problem-solving, and explore how technology changes how we grieve our loved ones and remember the past. You’ll step into the Clinic’s shoes, answer real questions, and leave with the beginning of your own digital legacy plan.

Dr. Jed Brubaker: Associate Professor in the Department of Information Science in the College of Communication, Media, Design and Information at CU Boulder. He conducts research in social informatics, social media and infrastructure studies. He studies how identity is designed, represented and experienced in socio-technical systems. Brubaker joins CU from the Department of Informatics at the University of California, Irvine where his research focused on our digital afterlives, interactions with post-mortem data and how to improve the management of accounts and personal data after we die.  His work has received numerous awards, received international media attention and directly informed the design and development of Facebook’s Legacy Contact.
