Beethoven's Message of Hope

Beethoven's Message of Hope In-Person

A solo piano performance of one of Beethoven's most significant works for piano: his 'Hammerklavier' Sonata Opus 106. Additional small works from Beethoven's late period will also be included in the program.

Beethoven’s Hammerklavier Sonata, his largest and most formidable work for solo piano, was composed between 1817 and 1818—a period marked by profound personal and legal turmoil. These years saw a notable decline in his compositional output, making the creation of such an ambitious work all the more extraordinary. Immense in both scope and emotional intensity, the Hammerklavier marks a pivotal transition into Beethoven’s late style, a phase characterized by spiritual resilience and visionary depth, later exemplified in masterpieces like the Ninth Symphony and Missa Solemnis.

In this sonata, Beethoven confronts adversity head-on, crafting music that grapples with suffering yet never loses sight of hope. Come hear a performance of this monumental work—a true cornerstone of the piano repertoire!
