African Cultural Diplomacy Event: Networking and Film Screening In-Person

Celebrate Colorado's African Immigrant Month at the African Cultural Diplomacy Event. A platform for discovery, reflection and community exchange through networking, cinema, and dialogue. This initiative bridges the cultural diversity of the African diaspora in Colorado, and brings together the broader Colorado community, fostering connections between communities.   

5:30 - 6:30 p.m. Networking, music and snacks
6:30 - 7: 15 p.m. Film Projection, three documentary shorts (details below)
7:15 - 8 p.m. Dialogue panel and Q&A

 

Three Documentaries:

The Moroccan Iftar15 minutes - Morocco - North Africa
Follow the life of Chakib Marriachi who comes to America to become a medical doctor; but decides to change his vocation after falling in love with American woman who encourages him to start a Mediterranean restaurant called "Cafe Paprika" to tell Moroccan stories through food.

 

From The Farm To Your Cup, 15 minutes - Ethiopia- East Africa
From The Farm To Your Cup is the story behind Lucy Coffee, a community coffee shop in Aurora,CO that was started by an immigrant couple from Ethiopia.

 

Chasing Levels, 18 minutes - Zimbabwe- Southern Africa

A young Zimbabwean uses sports and fitness to uplift, give people hope, and a sense of purpose and wellbeing. 
 

Hosted by Askkanwii Filmmaking Hub Incubator, a nonprofit organization based in Colorado to promote diasporic film, art, and cross-cultures beyond borders. 

 

Please use the North Side Canyon Entrance if arriving after 6:30 p.m. Parking is available in both the Canyon and Arapahoe lots. To reach the theater from the Arapahoe lot, you can cross the creek using the exterior bridge.
