Make Gatsby Great Again - The intersection of Illusion: 1925 - 2025

Make Gatsby Great Again - The intersection of Illusion: 1925 - 2025 In-Person

Gatsby has endured in our American Imagination. Come to an  'artifact presentation' and discover the parallels and connections between 1925 and today.. How do our personal and national aspirations shape our collective future.

As we celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the publication of The Great Gatsby we may wish to pause and see what has transpired in the last ten decades. What can this novel reveal about our lives today. Could it be that 2025 is a reflection of 1925 and does it accurately mirror the peril we are facing? The Great Gatsby is an American Rorschach, as we read it we see ourselves. Thus is the power of enduring literature. As an Artifact Presentation, I will bring primary source material such as first editions, letters, magazines from the 1920’s, sheet music and postcards depicting  the car culture of the 1920’s and other memorabilia that bare witness to the Jazz Age. Primary source material allows us to glimpse the past without filters and judge for ourselves the intersection of literature and culture as we weed out the illusion, myth and history of our collective past.
