STUDIO 24: Pixels to Stitches: Using Software to Pattern Textiles In-Person
Did you know you could use your phone to quickly and easily turn any digital photo or image into a pattern to stitch? Want to make a cross stitch portrait of your dog? Create a design to add to a sweater pattern? Impress your friends or kids with a Lego painting? In this workshop, patrons will learn how to use free online software like stitchfiddle.com or flosscross.com to design grid-based patterns they can use for textile techniques like cross stitch, needlepoint, and knitting. We will also discuss a color swatching (as going from screen output to textile or other media can be quite different) and more advanced techniques using Adobe Illustratior. Attendees should come prepared with a digital image, or we can take a minute to use our phones to snap some quick photos. This workshop will also cover how to read a gridded pattern for folks who have never used one before. For ages 10 and up!
Boulder Public Library presents Fiber Studio in STUDIO 24! During this 3-month focus (October-December), we invite patrons to take a deep dive into all things fiber with workshops, classes, and drop-in activities featuring sewing, weaving, spinning, needlework, and beyond! Workshops will be led by our Makers in Residence (Heather Schulte and Steven Frost) as well as many community partners.
