Drum Clinic with Max DeVincenzo In-Person
Learn the basics of drumming with Max DeVincenzo, a professional musician who has been playing drums for over 12 years in addition to composing music for film.
Session 1: ‘How to Practice’ (1-1:45 p.m.)
Goal: Discuss common issues with practice and how to practice intelligently and efficiently
Will cover:
-How the brain retains information
-Best ways to comprehend a drum groove and break it down
-How your limbs interact
-Breaking habits
Session 2: ‘Facets of a great drummer’ (2-2:45 p.m..)
Goal: To demonstrate what traits are necessary to be a musical drummer and how to develop a good foundation
Will cover:
-Dynamics and how and when to use them
-Tempo and groove
-Playing in an ensemble
-Collaboration
-Different playing settings and genres
Session 3: ‘Hand technique and application’ (3-4 p.m.)
Goal: To demonstrate how fingers, hand, wrist and stick motion create power and speed in drumming as well as prevent injury
Will cover:
-Why good form on drums is essential
-How to prevent injuries
-Exercises to develop hand strength
-Several stick techniques and when to use them
