Friday Film The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (Les Parapluies de Cherbourg) In-Person

Directed by Jacques Demy, with Catherine Denueve, Nino Castelnuovo (France—1964). Made in collaboration with composer Micheal Legrand with dialog entirely sung. A mechanic and the daughter of an umbrella shopkeep are in love, by he is called to serve in the Algerian War, unaware she is pregnant. In French with subtitles. (95 min.) This motion picture, like Top Hat as well, inspired the director of LaLa Land.
